Walking Routes :: Caravan Holidays :: Forest of Pendle

No caravan holiday in the Forest of Pendle could be complete without taking in some of the astonishing scenery in this Area Of Natural Beauty, and the best way to experience it is to head out on one of the many walks, cycle routes and trails. We have compiled a list of established walking routes all of which can be obtained by visiting Pendle's Tourist Information Centres or by calling 01282 661 981 (route publications are free unless otherwise stated).

  • Beating the Bounds - Circular walk starting from Victory Park in Barnoldswick. 9 miles.
  • Grand Tour of Pendle Cycle Route - definitely one for the cycle enthusiasts, this route is effectively the cyclists version of the Pendle Way, taking in the whole area.
  • Letcliffe Country Park - beautiful views across to the Dales and starting point of the walk up to Weets Hill.
  • Pendle Letterbox Trail - combining map reading, orienteering and treasure hunting this walk requires walkers to decipher the clues to find the next letterbox. Along the way you'll come across unusual rock formations, moorland and Boulsworth Hill. Call 01282 661 981 for a clue sheet.
  • Pendle's Three Peaks (50p) - Boulsworth, Pendle Hill and Weets Hill; try them all in one day for a real challenge.
  • Pendle Way (£3) - At 45 miles, this all-encompassing walk is split into 8 sections and is not for the casual rambler, but is the best way to see the most beautiful views and locations in the region.
  • Walks Around the Resevoirs - Designed by United Utilities these 3 walks amble round the water and through pretty wooded areas.
  • Wycoller Country Park - Several trails start from this Park. The Bronte Way (£4.50) cuts through Wycoller village, and "Ferndean Manor" from "Jane Eyre". There's a Visitor Centre and Tea Rooms at the Country Park whilst the nearby sculpture, "The Atom", is well worth a visit as part of the Panoptican Trail. Call 01282 870253 for more.
  • Six Circular Walks (£3) - For those not keen on the full 45-mile Pendle Way, these 6 medium length walks which explore all of Pendle might be a better solution.
  • Walking With Witches Trail - Follow the story of the infamous Pendle Witches via 2 circular walks around some of the associated key landmarks.
